王笛，1982年和1985年分别获四川大学历史学学士和硕士学位，并留校任教，1987年提为副教授。1999年获美国约翰霍普金斯大学历史学博士，现为得克萨斯A&M大学历史系教授，2003-2005年任旅美中国历史学会会长，2006-2007年度为美国国家人文中心研究员。2009年，任华东师范大学思勉人文高等研究院紫江讲座教授。主要研究领域为中国近代社会史、城市史、大众文化史。
